Jackson’s Garden, Inc.
Community Gardening Outside the Boxes - open to the public 7 days/week

Since 2009, Jackson's Garden has been helping our community access fresh, healthy foods, learn about gardening, and enjoy the benefits of our natural world.  Our mission, to promote gardening for production, education, and enjoyment of our community, is carried out by dedicated and passionate volunteers who believe that access good food and the enjoyment of our natural world are the inherent rights of all people in our community.

- Community Gardening Outside the Boxes –

Food Production at Jackson’s Garden – Unlike the traditional model of community gardening, the garden is maintained not as individually rented plots but as one large communal garden. The garden is managed and maintained by the Growers – a group of Members who commit to 10 hours per month working in the gardens. Growers, in exchange for this commitment of time and energy, receive a share of the produce. Run entirely by this volunteer work force, Jackson’s Garden truly belongs to the community. More produce is grown at the garden than can be consumed by just the Growers. We donate this excess to the Sheridan Food Pantry and Senior Lunch Programs, as well as sell it to the community. All proceeds from the sale of excess produce are directed back into the organization and making the garden a more beautiful place.

Educating the Community – The Education Program at Jackson’s Garden is inspired by Les and Betty Jackson, both life-long residents of Sheridan and school teachers. Through our Youth and Adult Education Programs, we seek to pass on their love for living things. You can learn more about our workshops, school tours, cooking and nutrition classes by visiting our Education Program Page

Enjoyment – Growing Community - At Jackson’s Garden, we grow more than just food – we grow community. Jackson’s Garden hosts community events, and invites all members of our community to come and enjoy this beautiful space. The garden is open to the public seven days a week. The shaded lawn area and picnic benches provide a nice venue for a picnic lunch or dinner. Planned Community Features include the lawn and picnic area, nature trail, and gazebo gathering place.

The garden can also be rented out for private events, ie. weddings, wedding receptions, family reunions, etc. - learn more at our website.
